In honor of Latinx Heritage Month, join Word Up for a special outdoor story time with Natalie Rios, coauthor of Travel con Lola! This story time will take place at Adventure Playground (164th St. and Edgecombe Ave.). In the event of rain, the program will be canceled.
About the Book
Inspired by their own childhood memories, Natalie and Jessenia Rios—first-generation Dominican American sisters—are embarking young readers into a cultural and educational journey to the Dominican Republic, hoping to make them understand the value of differences and more accepting of others and other cultural differences.
About the Authors
Jessenia and Natalie Rios are first-generation Dominican American sisters raised in New York City and currently living in Brooklyn. The first-time, self-publishing authors are also co-founders of little Lola & tots, a cultural and educational play space in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn since 2017. One of their most popular enrichment classes, also called Travel con Lola, inspired this first book.
Uptown Kid Lit is organized by Word Up Community Bookshop and is made possible in part with funding from the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corp. and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council; the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
