Rising in the Heights with Leadlights & Randy Mason

Rising in the Heights is a festival of free monthly public arts performances curated by Leadlights Ensemble in partnership with Word Up Community Bookshop. The festival celebrates the rich artistic contributions of Latinx and Black cultures and promotes children’s literacy through music and storytelling, with free book giveaways for all children who attend.

Feel the Beat by Marilyn Singer is a vibrant collection of poems celebrating all forms of social dance from samba and salsa to tango and hip-hop. This event features hip hop artist Randy Mason performing original songs, with more dance-inspired music by Leadlights. Free copies of Feel the Beat will be distributed to families, and gift cards to local restaurant Native Noodles will be raffled off.

Dates of next performances:
Friday, September 30

Rising in the Heights is made possible in part with public funds from Creative Engagement, a regrant program supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by LMCC.
