Adventure Playground

New York, NY 10032

The Natural Areas Conservancy and Word Up Community Bookshop will host a communal trash-clean up and ecology walking tour in Highbridge Park.

About this event

Volunteers will identify and remove garbage in heavily-trafficked areas of the park. While picking up garbage and walking through the park, participants will learn about different ecological concepts and invasive species management. At the end of this event, attendees will be familiar with urban forestry concepts and invasive species management.

Tools will be provided. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather. Bring water and a snack if you wish! Walking will be on paved and un-paved forest trail.

Highbridge Park - Ecology Tour and Afternoon Poetry Session

Participants will take a brief walk on the nature trail at Highbridge Park, where they will learn about the landscape, local ecology, and ways to get involved in more local opportunities to steward their neighborhood trails.

After the walk participants will join a nature themed poetry writing workshop, followed by an opportunity to perform or recite original works. The workshop will be hosted by Trails Community Engagement Manager, Josh Otero. Eco-friendly notebooks will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

Attendees of the Park Clean-Up are invited to stick around and join for the afternoon poetry workshop in the park, but advised to register in advance.

Funding for this project is provided by a grant from the Hudson River Estuary Fund.
