RSVP | via ZOOM | All proceeds from the sale of My Secret Wish will go to Immigrant Families Together
Join us for a special reading of two books featuring the story of asylum seekers and their journey to freedom: My Secret Wish and The Book of Rosy: A Mother's Story of Separation at the Border. Both authors from each book will read, talk, and discuss the perspectives of asylum from a child and adult. Three copies of MY SECRET WISH will be raffled off during the event!
Based on a true story, MY SECRET WISH explores the many challenges for a family seeking asylum, particularly now, during this difficult political time. What does it mean for the mother of two young boys, one of whom has been threatened by gangs, to make the difficult decision to come to America, when America has all but closed its doors. But determination and love are the catalysts, which motivate Mama to go on, with much hope in her heart, the same hope the young boys secretly wish for. Beautifully illustrated and translated by Elizabeth Balaguer, who will read the Spanish version of the book. Cover art by Rae Weyn Gonzalez.
Compelling and urgently important, The Book of Rosy is the unforgettable story of one brave mother and her fight to save her family. When Rosayra “Rosy” Pablo Cruz made the agonizing decision to seek asylum in the United States with two of her children, she knew the journey would be arduous, dangerous, and quite possibly deadly. But she had no choice: violence—from gangs, from crime, from spiraling chaos—was making daily life hell. Rosy knew her family’s one chance at survival was to flee Guatemala and go north.
