Vengan a ver una selección de películas documentales de las Américas, presentadas por la voluntaria de Word Up, Daniella Gitlin. En cada sesión, empezaremos con una breve introducción de lo que vamos a ver y después de ver la película, charlaremos un poco sobre lo que hemos visto. No es necesario tener experiencia con películas documentales para poder participar.  // Join us for a series of documentary films from the Americas, curated by Word Up volunteer Daniella Gitlin. We will begin every session with a brief introduction to what we'll be seeing, and after the film we'll have a short discussion about what we saw. También discutiremos la trayectoria de la serie, con un enfoque sobre las primeras dos películas, La batalla de Chile y Nostalgia de la luz de Patricio Guzmán, que vamos a ver el 6 y el 9 de noviembre, respectivamente. // At this first meeting, we'll explore and discuss the history of documentary cinema in the Americas, using various clips to guide us. We'll also talk about the plan for this Social Documentaries series, and provide some context for the first two films—Patricio Guzmán's The Battle of Chile and Nostalgia for the Light, which will be screened on November 6 and 9, respectively.

The Mrs., a widow, and Aridia, a young maid, live together in a house filled with orchids in the center of Santo Domingo. Aridia cleans, the Mrs. gardens, and when work is slow, they can share some gossip. Sometimes, the atmosphere gets tense before they can laugh again. Through an intimate portrait of two women, Tú y yo explores class, race, and the relationships that push against those categories. // La Señora, una viuda, y Aridia, una mucama, viven juntas en una casa llena de orquídeas en el centro de Santo Domingo. Aridia limpia, La Señora trabaja en el jardín, y a veces intercambian chismes. A veces, el ambiente se pone más tenso, pero de pronto se ríen de nuevo. A través de un retrato íntimo de dos mujeres, Tú y yo investiga los temas de clase, raza, y las relaciones que niegan esas categorías.
