Word Up Community Bookshop is proudly become a pop-up COVID-19 self-testing site for the next few weeks, following our "Testing Tuesday" partnership with the Office of the Manhattan Borough President. We are hosting a Health & Hospital team to provide self-test kits to our community.
NEW walk-up hours for testing are 9:30am-4pm, at 2113 Amsterdam Avenue, at the corner of 165th St, starting March 15 to April 29.
What this means for you as customers and supporters:
Your online book orders will be packaged and shipped from a different location. Our website, www.WordUpBooks.com, continues to be open 24/7.
There will be no curbside pickup at 2113 Amsterdam Ave. If you have not yet picked up your books, we will remove them from the store and will be in touch about alternate ways to get them to you.
Most of Word Up's staff is working remotely for the next few weeks, as we both make way for testing and also allow the air in the store to clear. (Some staff and volunteers have been working remotely since March 2020!)
Word Up collective members are not required to be onsite, though those who choose to volunteer will be double-masked, face-shielded, and at least 6 feet away as much as possible.
Although you cannot pick up books for the foreseeable future from Word Up, you can still visit—to do a COVID-19 self-test! See more details on this below.
We are not taking any used book donations at this time.
Things to know if you would like to come in to do a COVID-19 self-test at Word Up:
Walk-up hours for COVID-19 self-tests are 9:30am-4pm on Tuesdays. Word Up is located at 2113 Amsterdam Avenue, at the corner of 165th Street.
While waiting in line, everyone must wear masks (kids too!), and must stay at least six feet apart from everybody at all times. There will be distance markers on the sidewalk.
Staff from NYC Health and Hospitals, the Office of the Manhattan Borough President, and Word Up volunteers will supply a self-swab kit, collect your swabs onsite, package them up, and send to the lab. You’ll receive results in approximately 48 hours.
People age 18+ can do the test but need a unique email address from others in order to do it.
Children ages 4-17 can also do the test, ONLY IF a parent/guardian is present.
You will not be able to pick up any book orders, or window shop, while you are waiting in line. We will, however, share with you some recommended reads in our windows, which you can check out on your phones or when you get back home.
Visit www.PictureGenetics.com/login and log in using the information provided at your visit. You will also receive an email when your results are ready.
